Do p..." A lot of this (I.e tornadoes) is happening at the moment in the northern part of Nigeria. Really heavy ones and causing huge damages. I am a social scientist and would be nice to get someone to collaborate with, therefore opportunity to share related incidents from Africa (Nigeria). 00:50:45 Chris Obi: Replying to "[Full message cannot be displayed on this version]" thanks 00:50:50 Nate McGinnis: nate.mcginnis@noaa.gov, Meteorologist NWS Wilmington, OH. We are interested in partnering with social science experts to help investigate a severe tornado that impacted communities in west-central Ohio from Wapakoneta to Lakeview/Russells Point (Indian Lake). The fatalities (3) that occurred were in manufactured homes within these communities. 00:58:41 Chris Obi: Krisook2@gmail.com my email 00:59:06 Chris Obi: Many thanks 00:59:13 Jonathan Guseman: jonathan.guseman@noaa.gov, Meteorologist NWS State College, PA. We are interested in working with social science experts on how to best reach our vulnerable communities. This would include our Amish population and other rural communities. In terms of the public in general, how do we get folks to take appropriate actions when under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, closer resembling what they do for a Tornado Warning? Making sure they have ways to receive warnings is another piece of this. When impacted by a tornado or other impactful weather event, is there anything we can do to focus on awareness and preparedness vs. being horrifically scared when thunderstorms occur? Or if someone survives a tornado or damaging wind event, how do we make them understand that they need to prepare for the next one the same? 01:02:11 Samanta Varela: I would also like to share some research about how to engage a community to understand their floor risk: https://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/JZP5UWUBB7SWNMU8MVFP/full?target=10.1080/00909882.2024.2357131.
