This webinar provided insights regarding how to pursue a career pathway within the United Nations (UN). The speakers introduced webinar participants to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and situated it within the much wider UN system. The first speaker, Rhea Katsanakis, shared how she entered the UN system as a complete outsider with no connections more than 20 years ago. She also described some of the current opportunities to get started through internships, the UN Volunteers programme, and consultancies. Then Isabella Kemp, a former UN intern, described her experiences contributing to the UN Early Warnings for All initiative. She also offered tips for those hoping to apply for an open position, including how to seek funding. There was ample time for Q&A.
This webinar was designed for students, postgrads, or others seeking a potential career change. This was not an official training, but rather involved a rich sharing of experience and advice from within the UN system.
